Ponte de Lima and other suggestions Print E-mail

We find Ponte de Lima one of the most beautiful cities in the Northern Portugal. Distance from Porto to Ponte de Lima is about 90 kms that takes maximum 1 hour by high way.

The name of the town comes from the roman bridge that passes  the River Lima.

Places of interest:

Churches; Matriz from 1300 century and Santa Casa de Misericórdia.

Museum Terceiros.

Theatre Diogo Bernarder.

Cadeia tower from 1300 century.

House of Barbosa Aranha.

Marketplace, every second Monday on riverside.

Outdoor and nature:

Hiking on trails in rural or in National Park  and hillwalking. 

Wildhorses are often seen in the mountains.

Lagoas-lake area in National Park where even  the smallest childen have a lot of things to discover.

Canyoning.

Horseback riding.

Swimming and fishing.

Hunting.

Jeep riding.

Bicycle riding.

Rafting.

Golf. Ponte de Lima golf course is unusually beautiful. We recomend for demanding golfplayers because of it´s  great elevations.

Tennis.

Wine tasting and visits of wine producers. Try local speciality, Vinho Verde;"green" young sparkling white wine.

Géres - Natural Park.

Lagoas-lakes, worth of visiting with the whole family and don´t forget your swimming suits!

Mountains for example Serra Amarela.

Arcos de Valdevez; the town next from Ponte de Lima on the other side of the River Lima.

Ponte de Barca;  the village near Ponte de Lima.

Viana do Castelo; the famous city of handicrafts and ceramics.

Beaches; Praia do Bico, Moledo.

Vila Nova de Cerveira; the town near to the border with Spain. Take the ferryboat and you´re in Spain!

Valença;  the nearest Portuguese city before  Spain, surrounded by massive walls.

Guimarães; the city where the country was born. The Historic Center of city was declared a World Heritage Site in 2001 by UNESCO, due to  its Middle Age Castle and  historical monuments.

Braga; capital of Minho province. Known as a religious center. Many churches to visit. Famous Sanctuaries Bom Jesus and Sameiro. Bracalandia amusement park for kids.

Amarante;  romantic town . Don´t miss the  Gallery of Sousa Cardoso . Golf course. Aqua Park.

Porto, the second important city of Portugal. Porto shared the designation of European Culture Capital in 2001 (together with Rotterdam).  A lot of old culture, history and sightseeing. Douro River Cruises. Port wine cellars. Shoppings: Norte shopping, Arrabida shopping, Gaia shopping, Cidade do Porto shopping, Penisula shopping, Dolce Vita shopping  and Santa Catarina Street the main shopping street of Porto. Visit also Futball top division champions FC Porto´s stadium, The Estádio de Dragão, one of the Euro 2004 fields.
